Mahalia Jackson – Holy, holy, holy!

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee. Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty, God in three persons, blessed Trinity! Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth and sky and sea. Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty, …
Her Aunt Duke’s name was not Mahalia. It was Mahala! You are correct when you mentioned that Mahalia Jackson was named for her. Jackson’s birth name was Mahala, from which her nickname Halie is derived. Jackson added the “i” in the 1930s to distinguish herself from her domineering aunt!
This is the consummate Christmas song. Love it. None other like Mahalia.
I love this, I had this on a christmas album when I was a child and could never find it, so thanks for posting
This is the arrangement that appeared on one of the Firestone Christmas albums in the sixties…but that recording left off the second verse. I’ve loved this arrangement since I was a child, and the extra verse is an extra blessing! Thank you so much for posting.
Mahalia Jackson did not just sing spiritual songs. She lived them. This is the difference. she loved the lord and the God Blessed her with a Magestic Voice.
